Chaer's book, "Sosiolinguistik" in that it offers a greater appreciation of how dialects and their usage affect society in general. Some readers may be surprised that there even are dialects outside of ones own culture when reading the book, but I think it is helpful for people to realize that when someone from another culture speaks to them they may be speaking a different dialect and English might not always provide the right context based on the person speaking. In fact, I have learned a few things from this book, one being that there are seven different major dialects in the United States alone, and another being that there is a difference between a dialect and a language. This book also has me questioning who is to say what a dialect is and if it is acceptable for one person to determine whether or not someone speaks an acceptable way of speaking or if it should be left to individuals themselves.
