Wings of Fire, written by D.K.Husain is one of the most popular books in Malayalam literature. This book has revolutionized Malayalam fiction with its powerful imagery and story-telling technique in world-literature standards. The novel is an allegory, in which human beings are symbolic representations for birds with wings who are living in a vast expanse surrounded by huge walls on all sides called "the sky". The other animals and birds who live in that expanse and each other (except humans) are also living symbols for the characters, scenes and scenes of the novel. The first four scenes take place in a wooden mansion 'Nakamitham Kalam'. The narrator Moksha, the hero is born in this mansion, one of many wives of Nakamitham (the main character). Nakamitham is a pious man who takes care of his "thagathal" (wedding party) even at his old age. Moksha grows up an honest, intelligent boy with a passion for reading. He marries his lover Janaki, who was his childhood friend. The fifth scene depicts Moksha's life in the mansion 'Nakamitham Kalam' after the death of Nakamitham. It is based on the sacred bird called "Minniliyum Kaalavum". Moksha's father-in-law, Chellappan paces about with one wing folded to denote that there was no place for him anymore in the sky. Chellappan furiously accuses his son-in-law of beheading Nakamitham and helps rowdy elements to attack Moksha's family. The sixth and last scene shows Moksha's life in the palace of the sacred bird called "Aazhvarkodi", which is beside Minnaliliyum Kaalavum's mansion. The Aazhvarkodi is a scheming and brutal tyrant, whose interest is to kill as many as possible. Moksha rebels against this tyranny by opening his wings and breathing fire, which scares away all those who attacked his family. Chellappan joins hands with Moksha and together they build a new place like home like "Nakamitham Kalam". Their family grow bigger and flourish as Chellappan sings praises to Moksha. But soon after, Chellappan dies leaving behind a huge pile of debts. The sky is now the only home for Moksha 'Minniliyum Kaalavum', his wife Janaki and her friend Madhavi, the friends Madhavi and Madhu were born in a much different mansion, "Chakkarakkuthu" (meaning 'Poverty'). Their father died poor. While they are children someone steals their mother's jewels, which causes them to suffer from hunger. cfa1e77820
